                         DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION

The Pewaukee Police Department D.A.R.E. program has been very successful in building meaningful interaction with our youth. This year we are very pleased to introduce a new D.A.R.E. officer to the schools, Officer Jeff Lenius. In the past we have been able to reach out to the youth of our community and present this program in such a way that we often receive positive feedback from schoool staff, students and parents, and we are sure Officer Lenius will continue this tradition. In the past Officer Terry Grabow and Officer Duane Hachtel worked in our D.A.R.E. program, and their service is greatly appreciated.

D.A.R.E. recognizes that the we must accomplish several objectives to work toward our goal of a drug free youth. First we must build a lasting relationship with our youth based on trust and respect. If we are not trusted and respected then our message will surely go unheard. Second we must present the information as accurately as possible, not only discussing what drugs are and why many are bad, but what the consequences are if we make the wrong choices in our lives and how they may have long term implications. Students are encouraged and assisted in improving their self esteem, giving them the ability to resist negative peer presuure to use drugs.  Again, this all must be presented not as a lecture, but as a trusting, positive experiance for all who come in contact with the program.

We believe D.A.R.E. works, not only for our kids, but for our community as a whole. Our kids are our future, and were just glad to help make a positive influence in their lives. If you have any questions about D.A.R.E. please contact our D.A.R.E. instructor at the Pewaukee Police Department (262) 691-5678.
